Apple unveil the latest incarnation of their flagship pro desktop workstation the Mac Pro, this is a brief - not too techy - look at the update.
The part of the update that instantly stands out is the new look, the chassis has seen a complete overhaul into a tubular design with the black aluminium cylinder acting as a huge heat sync keeping the computer cool.
In terms of processing power, the new Mac Pro will have the latest Intel Xeon E5 Chipset with up to 12 cores. It will also have 2 AMD FirePro graphic processors. To put this in perspective, the previous 12-core Mac Pro had 2.7 teraflops of computing power. The new Mac Pro will hit up to 7 teraflops
There is no room for PCIe cards in the new design, but the rear of the unit hosts 4 USB 3.0 ports, 6 Thunderbolt 2 ports, 2 ethernet ports and a HDMI Output connection. Each Thunderbolt port can support 6 peripherals, meaning that 36 devices ca be attached to the Mac Pro via Thunderbolt.
There is no official release date or pricing as of yet, but Apple have said it will be coming later this year.
