DPA d:mension™ 5100 Mobile 5.1 Surround Mic
The DPA d:mension 5100 is a plug and play 5.1 recording system for recording sound ambience, sports broadcasts, video productions and documentaries. No additional signal processing is needed and the mic can be attached to a camera, mic stand, suspension mount or handheld and is light and weather proof enough to survive all manner of shooting locations.
The 5100 works through using five miniature pressure transducers that reject wind and mechanical noise with low sensitivity, low distortion chance, highly consistent low frequency response and a large dynamic range. Channel separation and directionality is achieved through DPA’s DiPMic system which mounts interference tubes on the L/C/R capsules coupled with acoustic baffles that further preserve the accuracy levels between each channel.
The front three mics are time coincident so as to reduce comb filtering and ensure paramount frequency consistency when mixed down to stereo and mono. The rear mics are optimally spaced from each other and the front to maintain the most natural time differences to each channel.
The end result of DPA’s innovative design approach is a surround atmosphere that is rich, smooth and fully enveloping, great in its coherence, channel separation and localization accuracy.
The 5.1 output of the 5100 runs through a multi-pin Lemo connector carrying all six channels electronically balanced, while an enclosed five-meter (16 ft), six-pair Mogami cable breaks out to six Neutrik XLR-M connectors.
